Artist Statement
I have developed greatly as an artist over the last two years. When I first started the class, I was not familiar with most forms of media and techniques. Overtime however, I have worked on learning and developing my skill and practiced different techniques and experimented with different media. I grew to love colored pencils and use them all the time and my skill level has increased exponentially. It is basically my go to medium.
A major weakness I have overcome over the past two years is my lack of patience; if I do not like the how a piece is coming out, I will get discouraged and it becomes difficult to work on and finish However, I have been able to combat this by focusing on the process rather than the outcome of the piece, as well as just setting a goal and time limit.
The final for my course was to create a body of work that had one united theme. My theme is pretty much people watching. I would always find myself drawing people, real fictional and original, during class or when I was bored so I decided to put this hobby to good use. A lot of ethical consideration went into the process of choosing what to depict because I had to determine how far I could go without being a creep, which was actually a fun experience in the end.
The main purpose behind of my work is to create art I like. Of course, I want others to feel something due to my pieces, but most importantly, I want to enjoy a piece I have created. This is mainly due to the fact that I am not always confident with my art so I want to be able to look at my work and be proud of it.
